This is the story of a stray. In his own words, he tells of the time we spent together, in what was to be the last year of his life.

All alone, he simply appeared at my door one cold and blustery November day. He had lost his way—abandoned, no doubt. It was my good fortune that no one ever came to claim him.

I named him Sierra, for the strength of the mountains, but you can call him pup, as I did.

Lingering and rich impressions of the land, the unexpected gift of a deep and enduring friendship, and the insights of a sage and soulful being ensure that this special dog and his story will both be long remembered. Appropriate for young and old alike, this touching story makes a wonderful gift that will leave the reader forever changed.  Suitable for ages 6 years and older.

    My dear Elizabeth:

I have spent a quiet morning at home today, thinking about my family and how little I know of their lives, their loves, their passions.

We were granted a special moment, you and I, this weekend. Your honesty and trust overwhelmed me beyond what I can express in words. To be invited into your life so completely, however briefly, has made me a wiser man. I am grateful.

Our encounters and this wonderful, touching story have reminded me, once again, how important it is to be alive to the circumstances each day, each season, presents to us.

You are much in my thoughts.

    I am,
    fondly and ever,
    your loving cousin,

You must meet Sierra, also known as “Pup.” When author Liz Brooking opened her home and heart to a tired and hungry stray, a love story began.

This is a quality book filled with charming photographs and warm vignettes of a very special year. It is highly recommend not only for public library shelves, but as a wonderful gift for dog lovers everywhere.
